Carly Tait - ‘Represent’ Disability Network Chair

Carly talks through her experiences of setting up a Co-op colleague network for disabled people in 2020.

Paul Munday - Software Engineer

Paul talks through his experiences of working as a Software Engineer with neurodivergent needs, in particula ADHD, autism and dyslexia. Great example of working with a ticketing system and how seemingly small barriers had a huge impact on his working day.

Rachael Bickerstaff - Inclusion Partner

Rachael talks through how the Co-op put inclusion at the heart of everything they do.

Steve Gell - Format and Equipment Development Manager Steve talks through how the Co-op aims to develop every equipment solution to be suitable for all customers and colleagues. He highlights a case study where they tackled designing a kiosk that allowed a colleague in a wheelchair to easily operate it.

Samuel Proulx - Accessibility Tester & Community Manager - Fable

Samuel is a completely blind screen reader user who works at Fable, a company that facilitates user testing with participants who use assistive technology full-time.

He talks through the importance of using real people with real experiences of living with disabilities and additional needs alongside any automated testing.

A case study from their work with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s election coverage features.

Dave Cunningham - DesignOps and Accessibility Lead

Accessibility at scale is a million little nudges all the time

Dave talks through the power of policy and how to use it as a force for good. Policies don’t have to be seen as ‘red tape’, they can help to get over the daunting ‘where do we start’ feeling when embracing accessible design. https://www.coop.co.uk/accessibility

Chris Gibbons - Lead Front End Engineer on Design System Team

Chris talks through his experiences of producing a design system framework to meet their mission statement - “To create cost efficient and coherent user experiences for Co-op, for everyone”. Alex Hall - Content Designer

Alex talks through the elephant in the room for anyone who has read the WCAG guidelines - “How can we make accessibility accessible?” The Co-op have taken the WCAG guidelines and translated them into their own simple accessibility standards using content design principles. https://www.coop.co.uk/accessibility/standards

The Co-Operate team
