User Researcher

User researchers plan, create and conduct research activities with users so that teams gain a deep understanding of their users. This research influences the direction of projects, content and interaction design so that products can meet the users' and organisation's needs.

Core Skill#

Analysis and synthesis#

You turn research data into clear findings so that the team can make informed decisions. You know how to include the delivery team in analysis and synthesis activities to build consensus and challenge assumptions.

Inclusive research#

You understand that users are diverse in many ways. You understand the value of including a diverse representation of users in research activities so they we can delivery accessible and inclusive products.

Research methods#

You have experience of a wide variety of research methods. You choose appropriate methods depending on the situation and status of the product or service. You are aware of bias and seek to remove or mitigate it where possible.

Society and technology#

You understand the social and technological context for the service. You help others understand how technology is changing user behaviour. You can identify the challenges and opportunities for products.

Strategic insight#

You understand the organisations needs and strategy. You align research activities to create strategic insights that you share both within the team and externally.

Technical insight#

You have knowledge of the technologies used to build and run products or services. You understand the different roles within a multidisciplinary team and can communicate effectively.

User-centred approach#

You understand user-centred design practices and embed them into agile teams.

Agile ways of working#

You work in an open, transparent, iterative and collaborative way. You share research findings in a frequent and timely way. You are comfortable facilitating collaborative activities with the delivery team.
